Just wondered... they claim that Helium is "where knowledge rules" or something. Oh, hang on. That's changed. It's now "learn what you need, share what you know", but the emphasis by 'writers' has always been on how you write, not what you write. I just thought it was a little weird, you know?

Can you flag an article that you've come across (not through rating), or do you have to send the url to the site steward? Lisa x

I believe you can only do it if it's "abusive" rather than poor.

It's just I've come across quite a few articles that are clearly off topic, but somehow have made it to the top of the pile. I know high ranking doesn't guarantee more money, it just seems unfair that good quality articles that are on topic are pushed to the bottom. Lisa x

It's one of the reasons I don't like the site.

For all the shouting about integrity of writing that Helium members do, an awful lot of topics have poor content that's rated highly including articles that are borderline off-topic. That's why I think content should be monitored a lot more than grammar and spelling by the writing nazis.

Plus there's this mentality that, if you can research it, then you're entitled to write about anything. That leads to extremely poor and often erroneous content.

In this instance, I don't believe Helium is that far away from Dooyoo or Ciao. To me, researched articles are those that list facts and don't actually tell me anything, much like the dross penned by Ciao members. The good articles, written from experience and wisdeom, are those that we all like to see on Dooyoo and Ciao with bags of personal experience.

OK I have two writing stars and three rating stars now

But a lot of mine are the only one in their category, possibly up to half, does that mean they wont count in the rewardathon?

Every article you write within the period counts for the rewardathon, though be careful not to have too many one out of ones because that takes your writing average down. As you stand at the moment, you will get money from the rewardathon when it finishes tomorrow.

Your star standing at the moment is super Helen and perhaps it would be best to stay like that and take the money. Then put in others later. The stars are calculated on the per centage of articles above the half way mark and No. 1 articles tend to pull that percentage down until someone else writes to them.

I signed up the other day just to have a look and it is really complicated and the quality looks variable. In the category I was going to post in there was only one review and it went into a massive amount of pointless data on flying with one particular airline. Not sure my sometimes flippant style of writing will fit in, might do a review dump in the summer holidays and see how it goes but at the moment I'm not active on Dooyoo let alone anywhere else.

Considering a dump in the summer then, Rich? Don't make too much mess. Cool

If you must dump, Richard, wait for the Rewardathon...
