| I am getting the hang of this very well. I went into the front page where the articles are shown to the public, and read in areas I was interested in, and where the articles are crap, wrote my own. Within a couple of minutes mine were at the top !! Way to go ! | |

| Ah but for every 8 postings, I rate ten times that probably more. There is no limit on postings on the site at all. | |

| in fact churning is almost encouraged. Due to there not being a "most recent 100 written" type thing churning dosnt become a problem in the way that it does on D and C. | |

Sorry for my illiteracy, but what is "churning"?

| churning is a term used when people post loads of reviews in quick succession. On sites that list the last 100 reviews this is annoying when twenty reviews in a row are by the same person thus quickly pushing other peoples work out of sight. As Helium is listed by topic menus and all articles in a topic are visable this is not an issue. Hope that makes sense. | |

| Thanks for explaining.
I have posted 2 other articles on helium yesterday. One was on a topic where one 1 article existed and mine went straight to position one.
The other one was on a topic with 9 previously posted articles and mine was ranked 6th. It did not move yet.
I rated/compared a lot too.
Not much action on my account balance either. Still at $0.01

| be patient, it often takes a few days for an article to shift to its designated position, especially in categories were there isnt a lot of new stuff being written. My account took a while to get moving but now goes up every day. | |

They should launch a German platform!

| So this is where you guys are. I find Helium has been a great help to me being a novice, I am more than pleased with what some of my articles have done. My next venture is to write on something I know little about. Think that includes most things LOL | |

| I'm not sure thats the way to go. Each human being knows a lot, and writing something you know about makes your article much more convincing | |

| just playing devils advocate here. With something like Helium where many of the topics are pure information you could argue that the process of researching and putting together an article is a wonderful learnng process. Obviously you couldnt get away with that approach on Ciao or Dooyoo where opinion and experience are tantamount but isnt that one of the nice opportunities that helium affords.
you know me Rach...just like to argue...

| Yep but you know me and the thought of copying other people's ideas. I think if I don't know something, then I really must leave it to those that do know something. I have seen so many articles where there are just sourced pasted links, and to me, these are not original thought, and not even helpful or express a writers thoughts on a subject, just a collection of data. | |

| Okay an example of what I mean. Wrote an article under the heading "What languages were spoken at the time of Jesus" I knew a bit about the period but thought that it was something that I would find interesting. So I did some research and put an article together. Now something such as this is purley a factual piece of writing (unless of course you are a linguist specialising in dead languages) an opinion is limited. Fact on the other hand is not. Reiterating a series of facts is not plagarism its communication. The art of making the piece original comes in the way you construct the article and even though the facts remain the same the article can still be made unique.
Also the depth of research makes a hell of a difference. Some of the competeing articles are just lists, I managed to put together an evolution of the languages prevailent and the types of people who were using them. Even though I researched the information from other published sources and even though there is little opinion in the article i feel it still holds up as a decent piece of writing. Thats what I'm talking about when I say factual writing, not only hopefully worthwhile to readers but also it was a learning curve for myself.
Apologies for pointing to a specific article but I'm trying to illustrate a point.
