Something that grabbed me about this site is that no matter when you wrote your review, you will be rated months and months afterwards, because Helium want the order sorted out, and you do get paid for good solid work, since it will always be compared to the new stuff. That means that work you write is constantly being moved, which I feel is a really good thing.

Agreed, I think that when ever anything new is posted in a category, and this is quite frequently looking at how busy the site is, it has to be rated against existing posts in that same category. this means that in the re-shuffle to find its optimum position older work will be used as a comparison in the rating process. this means that your work is never fixed and has the ability to move up or down depending on the strength of the new articles joining it.

Yeah that's a good thing, in theory - I'm still on my $0.01 at the minute though so I'm rapidly losing interest in the site

I was for days, but you just post, read and rate, post, read and rate and wait for things to move. They do. Believe me.

it does take a while, i just uploaded a bunch of old Ciao stuff, slightly re-jigged to suit the difference in application and after three weeks am on $2.40. Okay not massive but once you have a decent number of articles on the site it seems to take off. As payment is governed by non-member reads the earning potential doesnt seem to lessen once the articles have been there a while, especially in the more general and topical categories.

It feels to me like we are talking about different platforms.

I have posted a review here: http://www.helium.com/tpc/4449

It was ranked 6th immediately after posting (I guess the default middle position with 10 articles for this topic). Fair enough, but that was over one week ago and it has not moved ever since. Don't think of me as big-headed but I feel that my article has deserved better (look at ranks 1-5 and judge yourself!). And I have been rating a lot - even in this category.

You suggested to rate a lot. However, I don't see why rating a lot would improve the ranking of your own articles? How is that supposed to work? Are you penalized for not rating by being excluded from the ranking mechanism? Where is the sense in that? The quality or relevance or whatever makes a article better than another should not be affected by how much you rate, should it?

Still at $0.04 for days now. I really wish there would be more transparency. Daft "click-a-lot-and-you-will-be-clicked-a-lot" á la ciao style to earn a handful of bucks does not sound very exciting to me I must say.

My trivago account is currently at 160GBP (accumulated since the last payout in Dec 8th) and I did not work like crazy, in fact I was quite lazy inthe last 6 weeks....

Mine is going a great deal better than yours. Not sure what the mechanism is although I know if I don't rate, I don't reap. I shall take a look.

Didn't take long to see which was the best one, although hold fire and see how it moves. One of mine took two weeks to get its right slot. I actually have an off topic as a number one at the moment !

Helium has not proven a lot of effort for me. I have cut and pasted loads of my stuff. Had I that much travel stuff, I would have moved it to Trivago but I haven't and that requires work which I don't have the time for at the moment. I have about 53 articles I think over there now, and most is paying.

I have over 500 on ciao !! anyway sometimes I read some categories where I feel I can say more, and type them out. Its not rocket science, but if you write better articles than are there already, they get jumped up and earn money and they only take minutes to prepare.

Ok, I posted a few more. Longer ones, extremely short ones and I rated a lot.

Surprisingly the shortest article of all (http://www.helium.com/tm/133785) was the only one that moved. It went up from 8 of 15 to rank 2 within less than 24h.

Really odd. I can't see any scheme here to follow. Maybe I'll try some 2-liners.

PS: Account balance it at $0.07 now. Even on tight ciao I would have earned more with the same effort.

But Sascha - you probably make a good amount from having referred others too!

I can't deny that... I agree with you that it's hard work in the lower user levels, but it is easier to accrue a lot of shares for higher user levels. It's quite lucrative to accomplish special tasks and manage small (or big) projects.

And when you can mentor other users (from level 5) you also get 10% of their shares as a bonus for helping them.
