When you submit a new article on the site, you are asked to give keywords. These are essential to your article being found on a search. The site say that many users are not inserting them correctly. These should be words relevant to the article and spaced with a comma between them.

Why don't they give these instructions where they would be seen by all - in the "new article" form, right next to the input box?

Try it out Very Happy

I mean, since they disclose so little of how Helium works, you have to do it by trial and error

I think that they also dictate the reviews that get featured below your article in the "you may also be interested in..." type area.

Yes, my experience of it is that they are picked up by google and by the site search itself.

It's when you suggest a new topic that isn't on there at all at the moment. It's called "initiating topic" I think.

It is under initiate a new one. But make sure to search the site thoroughly before initiating. There isn't a large space for keywords so choose them carefully, even using a phrase that is in your article that you think folks would search for on google or however they are searching. I think it's in the Writers Workshop that offers ideas on keywords. It is very helpful but also sometimes difficult to know what to use.

Oh they so need to explain this because I don't get it at all and I'm sure i am not the only one. It makes no sense to me and a little bit more info in the tip bit would be a great idea Smile

They should just remove that bit and let the Helium staff insert the required keywords. That way it gets done correctly with very little impact on a topic going live.
