Good idea or not?

I can understand them not wanting to allow parents to get drunk while in charge of their kids, but is it really there problem? And is it really fair because they just want the customer out again quickly?

Possibly not the right approach by the pub chain's manager in this instance, but I do agree with the idea of parents and other adults not being drunk in charge or in the company of children.

All for it. I always thought there was some kind of law against kids being in a pub anyway.

I think it is that they are ok to be in pub's until 8pm?

I don't have anything against it, but it just really sounds like they want to say 'no children' so why not just make it a 'non-family' pub rather then come out with all this crap about how much you can drink?

Also they do kids meals and do high chairs, making it look like children are ok to go in.

Yeah, and children will most likely be fine for up to about an hour. However, after that point, they will likely get bored and start playing up. I don't blame them either, I would be bored stupid at that age if I was stuck in a boring old persons place.

I think this is the whole point. Kids CAN go in, but they SHOULDN'T be there for hours upon end.

Yeah I agree. It is not a place for kids, we only go in with our son if we are going out for Sunday lunch and there is a kids soft play bit there and he is eating too so quiet lol.

My point is I don't think it is right for a pub to tell people how long they can stay in a pub for. I do wonder how many other pub's will not follow suit.

I think it is ridiculous to be limited like that and under child cruelty legislation is taking the proverbial.

I don't condone parents being in the pub for hours on end with their kids either, but you would hope to god that the parents would see this is not a child friendly chain, if they dont have play areas etc

Then again, they are cheap...so they will attract people in on that basis.

Wetherspoons can spin this anyway they like. Everyone knows this 'new' policy is served to their own purpose.

I think Wethersppons is already fairly child friendly but what they don't want is kids runing wild while the parents booze. Makes sense to me.

Come for a meal, have a drink, but afterwards go and do something else.
