Okay, this looks a potentially lucrative part of the site but would any regular Helium writers like to enlighten me as to how it works? Have you had any payout and how is it decided upon?

From what I have experienced you write as best as you can about the topic they are looking for. You can not see the other articles which I think it a good thing. When the deadline expires the publisher should be sorting through the articles posted and chosing either one or a few - it is up to them. Payment comes through Helium. Sometimes the deadlines are extended I think if they need a few more articles to choose from.

I did have one of my articles chosen - was a TV review of Battlestar Galactica. I was so thrilled as it's my favourite show.

Hope this helps.

Do they always choose a review then? Some topics are only getting a couple of reviews so I presume they will not choose one of they are low quality.

It depends on if they need a review. If the call for it is listed in Marketplace that is. You never know which one they will choose, honestly the ones that have been chosen you wonder 'why' but probably after a bit of editing it may suit their purposes.

How's the writing life going in Wales???

Well, everyone needs a bit of welsh to get through the day!

Craigslist has been a good source for some writing gigs, specially as so much stuff can be done online now.

Even after marketplaces are closed, items can still be purchased until helium close the market. I was told that even if an item is unpurchased, as long as the topic is not readable, there is a chance you will sell one. I sold one this week that I thought had been a waste of time.

Hi. I'm new to Helium. I actually earned $5. Joined March 15. I heard this special writing started in January and ended in April. Depending on how many articles you posted you were paid a certain amount.

I don't write just to write words. My longer stories of about 1,500 usually take me about 16 hours. Maybe I'm just too fussy, it usually involves a lot of research as well.
