The only online company to have the address of my mother in law is Dooyoo. This week, a book club sent a book to her address with my name and I am pretty upset about it, as I have never used her address for anything else online at all. How can we ensure that our addresses are not passed to third parties ? How do we know if they have ? It worries me.

The only way to ensure addresses are not passed to third parties is to not give out your address except for vital things (ie banks)

You can contact the company and ask them how they got your address. If they refuse to tell you, put it in writing to them asking for all the information they have on you including the sources they received the info for. They have 10 days (I think) to reply to you with all the info but can ask for up to £10 to cover their expenses in doing so.

I actually told my mother in law to use the prepaid envelope that came with it and tell them to collect the blimmin book. I did not order it and do not want it.

I worried about you Erika when I didn't see you yesterday !! You should at least have gotten photos of the guy. Watchdog won't do much without proof.

i think in general companies and websites ask for too much information, i enter a lot of online competitions, and ive yet to figure out why they need to know how many kids i have etc
