ADD NEW ATTRACTION Empty
PostSubject: ADD NEW ATTRACTION   ADD NEW ATTRACTION EmptyWed 27 Sep 2006, 22:37

You want to post a review or upload some photographs about an attraction but it isn't listed? This thread will explain the steps needed to add an item to the database. An attraction could be a museum, theme park, restaurant or monument (if in doubt as your Mentor) but is NOT a hotel. Attractions are added to destinations.

CHECK THE DATABASE

It is always worthwhile confirming that the attraction has not been added already in the wrong place by checking the regional listing.

In the top menu data field enter the region name and then click "Region" from the drop down menu. Click "Search". If it appears choose the region from the list of alternatives.
From the Region's front page, click "All Attractions".
Check through the list. If not present proceed as below.

PREPARATION FOR THE NEW ENTRY

You will need to write a short factual account of the attraction you want to add. You can do this directly into the form provided but it is perhaps easier to prepare this offline and then cut and paste it later.

You will also need to gather information from the attraction's website.

Enter the town's name in the data field at the top of the page, choose "Region" from the drop down list and press "Search"
From the town's front page, click "Add New Attraction" (third option from the yellow menu)
This brings up the first page of "Add New Attraction" form.
There is a single data field here "Name in National Language". Write in the official name of the attraction. Click "Send"

The second page starts with a series of fields to fill in.
Choose the "Type of attraction" from the drop down list.
For English language entries, repeat that official name of the attraction.
If there is an admission cost, put this - denominated in Euros - here.
(This is an internal trivago requirement. The recommendation is to use an exchange rate of £1:1.5 or to add 50% to the admission price in pounds)
"Address (1)" is a mandatory field
"Address (2)" is a subsidiary address line
"Zip Code" is for the post code if known
"City" is the destination of the attraction

"Phone" and "Fax" (if known) require the full international dialling code with no spaces between the numerals.
"Web address" Add the address of the web site you used for your information. (Note that you must remove the leading "http://" )
"email" Add a contact email address if known.

"Distance to transportation"
Seven drop down fields ("Airport", "City centre", Public transportation", "Train station", "Beach", "Highway", "Trade / Convention Centre") Choose the appropriate distance for each field, if known, from internet or other searches.

"Neutral description and facts about the attraction (description, no judgemental statements!)" This is where you add your prepared statement.

"Upload picture of this attraction" - You can add a picture here. It should be in landscape orientation (required by the site); less that 1MB in size and jpg format. It is acceptable to use the main picture from the attraction's web site. Download it to your machine, adjust the size if necessary and then paste the address to this field.

Press "SEND"

POINTS: A maximum of 200 points is available for a new attraction. Your submission will be reviewed by a Level 5 member or above. You can track its progress by clicking the "Advanced Actions" tab on your profile page and then click the "Items" option. There is a detailed schedule which assesses the relevance of the attraction, the completeness and accuracy of the details and the appropriateness of the description. When confirmed you will see the name of the reviewer, his comment and the percentage value of your submission.

A NOTE ABOUT WORD

Microsoft Word uses a number of "typographical characters" (quotation marks, apostrophes) which trivago does not recognise. If you have used these in your paragraph you may get an error message asking you to replace them. Using Notepad should prevent this problem.

A WORKED EXAMPLE.

I am adding Hexham Old Gaol, an attraction in Hexham, Northumberland.
From the Hexham front page, I clicked "Add New Attraction"
On the first page, "Name in National Language" is Hexham Old Gaol
On the second page, "Type of attraction" is Museum / Exhibition / Gallery
"Name used in English" repeat Hexham Old Gaol
"Costs per person" is 5; "Entrance fees" from the drop down list
(3.50 + 1.75 - rounded to the nearest whole number)
"Address (1)" = Hallgate; "Address (2)" left blank
"Zip Code" left blank; "City" = Hexham

"Phone" = +44(1434)652351
"Fax" leave blank
"Web" = www.tynedaleheritage.org
"email" = museum@tynedale.gov.uk

Distances were added as appropriate. "Beach" and "Trade / Convention Centre" were left blank.

My completed paragraph and the photograph from the website can be seen on line in due course.

Press "Send"
