| Why don't more members rate things as Not Useful? Or am i just a hard liner? I have read several reviews over the last few days that are not reviews at all. The general consensus seems to be to rate these as "somewhat useful" when they are quite clearly totally useless. I have removed the name of the credit card from the review below (this is an actual review though) and I want to know if anyone on this forum finds it "somewhat useful" and if so, what they found useful about it. - Quote :
- Credit Card Review
From searching on the internet and talking to my friends it was clear this card would be a pretty good deal. From filling in the forms online i received a phone call checking some details and then the forms appeared in the post then once i had sent these off my card and pin arrived ina matter of no time at all. The card looks great and goes well with my new kitchen appliances. the only realy problem i had was activating it tooka couple of days but that was it really.

| I would go with SU in that case.
Many people save NUs for abusive, plagiarised, nonsense or off topic reviews. The example you give is none of those. It is, however, severely lacking in very much of use, so it gets the next rating available besides NU.
'Tis rubbish though, | |

| Probably would have given that SU, too, but I have noticed that often I tend to be more critical than many others. There have been several reviews that have got a bunch of U's and then I have come along and put out a straight SU as the only one (or NU if the review really sucks), and wondered what is with everybody else.
I guess it's all about perception, really.

| You'd HOPE they were taking the piss but I think the reviewer genuinely believed it was serious advantage of the card. (heavy sigh) | |

Absolutely, rating are all subjective and all about perception but if I was looking for a credit card and stumbled on the above review it wouldn't help me in selecting a card at all. Maybe it's the mood I'm in today but my feeling was that if members were harder on crap reviews, there might not be so many. Or this could just be a fantasy of mine that I happen to say out loud

| Oh the shame. I rose to the challenge, but in my haste to rate and comment I mis-typed the word "said". What a spanner I am! | |

| I NU loads in my games category but I get a lot of crap in it. For me anything that could have been got off the back of a box is NU. | |

| For me there can sometimes be a very fine line between SU/NU. A simple list of features just isn't useful to me, but say someone added the words "this is a great phone I really like it" well then to me that's SU as they are at least attempting to share their opinion. | |

| Just to add for me at least NU is reserved for the following cases :
1. Copies/duplicate reviews 2. Off topic 3. Lists of features (or completely retelling a story) without ANY opinion 4. Nonsense reviews 5. Scams (get loads of these in the telecommunications category) 6. Abusive reviews (racist/full of vile language/ that sort of thing)

| I've only had one of these ratings and thought it was harsh. i think it has to be off topic completely or contains no information. Also, i hate doing it so try to find the positive things in the review. i shouold do it more though-scared of revenge raters too | |

| Most of my NU's get used in speakers corner, which has become my current bone of contention, a sthere is a lot of vague gossip spewed forth under the guise of debate, but i wont go on at length here as i have already started a thread elsewhere. I would say the the quoted review was deffinatly NU as it could be about almost any card on the market and contains no information. | |

Hi Butters, from one non guide to another, why are you afraid of revenge ratings ? What hard can they do you ? You still get paid. Rate honestly how you feel. Never feel that your rating has to be more generous than merited, and if you worry about your rating, back it up with a reason why. That's all any member can do.

| I've rated some crap ones today NU but others i have rated SU because of the borderline and not wanting to be mean or get revenge ratings. Someone wenty on about an animal (reviewed ages ago but i want one of them) and didnt say how long they live, what size they grow too, price and what they eat-just he loved his pet | |
