Personally I would not look beyond the ipod.

Yes they are over hyped but they are also darn good.

Depending on the size you want you can get an ipod shuffle that holds 250 songs for about £50 or a 60GB Fifth Generation Video ipod that can hold up to 15,000 songs or pictures and video clips. They retail at a touch under £300

Yeh stu, but that really is above my price range for a frivolous item like this.

What, even the £50 for an ipod shuffle?

I doubt you will get much of anything worth having for less than that tbh.

You get the standard ipod earbud phones, I use a set of headphones though for improved quality.

They are easy to use and the software is user friendly. Sound is superb, although it depends on the quality of the music you put on of course.

I would guess something like an ipod Nano would suit you, not overly expensive but with most of the features of the bigger models.

Keep in mind though, the problem with the shuffle is that whilst you are out an about, there is no way to change the order of the songs, or to jump straight to a favourite song, except by skipping through songs.

Perhaps you'd like the iPod Flea instead... lol!

If you just want simplicity and a decent sound then you could do worse than an Itronics one. The 1GB one is tiny, easy to use and has 8 hours battery life (with good batteries!). Earphones are shit though but its only £39.99 in the Argos!

My Sanyo one is really good 6gb and under £100 although unfortunately it it is no longer available on Amazon.

I have just bought my daughter an Archos Gimini which is 3gb and £95, the sound is pretty good (although better ear phones would help) and one thing I do like is the fact that you do not need to load any additional software as you use windows media player to load songs.

For me ipods are over priced for what you get.[/code]

Pick up a cheap iPod mini Smile You can have mine for a tenner lol.

iPod Shuffles are good, they can a bit fiddly though cos of the whole 'no screen' thing and you can't pick what song you wanna listen to.. have to keep skipping back and forth til you find it. Hence the name iPod Shuffle Smile

I havent used my iPod mini for ages however it is a very good option. I use my sony erricson phone now, just enough space for what I need and one less thing to carry.

Most of the standard MP3 players do with, on mine you can filter by track, album, artist or genre. You can also compile your own playlist which I use for the gym and also have one or relaxing to.
