| Ok, may be a bit 'common' but the best classical live concert I have ever been to was in Bath's Victoria Park in 2003 (I think) to see Pavarotti. I am not a huge Pavarotti fan but when he did nessun dorma I was speachless, it was just fantastic. But my best ever classical piece without any doubt has to be Pachelbel's Canon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J09a-buFd0g | |

| Well, if we're mentioning favourites, check out Berlioz's March to the Scaffold from the Symphonie fantastique. Incidentally, also pay attention to the little girl in a light coloured shirt right behind the conductor. She's really into this stuff (I think she even passes out at one point). Also the Rákóczy March is great fun. | |

| The final track on "Favourite Worst Nightmare" by the Arctic Monkeys called "505" uses a sample of Ennio Marricone's organ from the movie "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly". I thought you should know this, Jani. | |

| There is no organ in GBU. There is one in For a Few Dollars More though (if you mean a direct lift and not just "performed with"). | |

| It's sampled from the music where Angel Eyes enters before the final standoff | |

| Just did a quick check on that and yeah so there is. A small motif of less than 10 seconds, reason why it's not on the albums and why I've missed the detail. | |

| Hey, there are some nice links in here. Cheers for the listening.
I don't know much about classical music but I know what....
I stumbled across Aram Khachaturian's Waltz from Masquerade, and it hasn't left my itunes ever since. I could listen to it on loop all day. I should really get hold of the suite.
And incidently I stumbled across it whilst looking for Mussorgsky's Hut on Fowl's Legs, which is also fantastic.

| You know with the recent Eurovision horror still too much in memory, I think it's time to calm down with a gem of an anime theme tune I just discovered. I can almost unreservedly say this is the finest opening music for any anime I've yet heard. Enjoy. Elfen Lied: Lilium | |

| POTC3's musical score includes a homage to Ennio Marricone's spaghetti western pieces, Jani. I thought you should know this. | |

| Yes, I know, The Man with a Harmonica from Once upon a Time in the West (one of those pieces I just love for its uniqueness). And as many probably know that I have not been especially kind towards the POTC music thus far, you might be surprised that I'm actually interested in the third film's score. I've yet to pick it up from the stores (not seen it around yet), but I've heard quite a lot of positive feedback on it, which is reinforced by some persuasive clips I've heard. Will have to see how it plays out (has to be better than the previous two piles of crap). | |

| The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra are playing a concert in my local park in June. Who'd have thought it? Maybe they're a tribute orchestra?

| That's cool. The RPO is one of my favourite orchestras. Is that like an outdoor performance, or is the "park" some kind of a fancy venue down your ways? | |

| No, they are playing a local venue in Northampton which happens to be my local park - literally. I'm pondering whether to buy tickets. £20 for adults and £5 for children, I think, and it's a comprehensive programme of music and it is outdoors. | |

| Sounds like something you should definitely go to if the programme is at all good. Could prove to be very enjoyable. | |

| Anyone see the programme about Sergio Leone's life and times on Sky Arts yesterday? Featured a lot of Ennio's music. | |

| Well, I obviously didn't see that (not having these kinds of channels), but I do have all six scores Ennio wrote for Sergio Leone (+ one that has a story by Leone) which of course I love very much. But I do find Leone's output fascinating. BTW, check this one out. It's a real corker! Navajo Joe | |

| I bought Barbers Adagio having fallen under the spell of it a while ago. The Cello and Violin concerto's that accompany it are also brilliant but the choral version of the Adagio itself at the end of the CD is breath taking. Without wanting to sound too poncey, I have to agree with a review I found somewhere which said that "this is what heaven must sound like"...still I'll probably end up in the other place anyway with the furnaces and the rock music. | |

| Indeed, it is perfect funeral music (testified by many US presidents).
I quite like the First Essay for Orchestra op.12, too, that came right after the String Quartet the Adagio was arranged from. Of the three Essays, it's my favourite and one of my favourite Barber compositions. If you get the chance, you might like to check it out Dave.

| Can you believe this will be getting an expanded 2-CD re-release around June or July? Well, I wasn't expecting it and I'm Exstatic!!!!Another childhood Holy Grail about to be purged from my list. Now, to just get the two Indiana Jones sequel scores expanded, and my life will be complete. | |
