DO you think banana hammock should be the official word to make a topic off-topic?

I think it should be used when you can't be arsed to think for yourself.

Works for some people!

We have a member here that actually joined this site before writing their first review on dooyoo, read like mad in an effort to understand what sites like dooyoo are about, and every review they wrote was crowned. Why ? Because they were darned good, and they participated. No one is levelling criticism at you personally, but trying to explain how it works.

While I agree that it makes sense for new members to participate regularly by reading/ rating and possibly posting, it doesn't mean they'll get crowns. While I think that dooyoo is much fairer than ciao, why some get crowns and others don't, it's not always obvious as to why.
For example I have seen time and time again, members writing in the same categories, in the same sort of layout and write up of each area of a product, but one will nearly always get crowns and the other won't.

My advice to new members is this, be active and read and rate. Look at the reviews that are getting mainly VU and crowns, to see what sort of detail is required. Finally write in your own style, include plenty of info on a product, with a balanced write up of your opinion. At the end of the day you can only write to the best of your abilities, and it's a nice surprise if you get a crown! Lisa x

At the end of the day DooYoo (CIAO and Epinions for that matter) are business concerns. They may depend upon us, worker ants, for our reviews but we are not part of the formal organisation. It is their business plan and they will reward us in the way they see fits best with that business plan.

I doubt whether you CAN have much influence at the end of the day on how that works unless you become a board member, shareholder or higher up employee.

Cheers Alan

The following comes from the guide book:

What is a premier review?
A premier, or 'crowned' review, are reviews that are considered to be above and beyond the best on dooyoo.
A premier review is exceptionally well written, helpful, useful and insightful. It is comprehensive, concise and clear. A premier review has character. Most of all a premier review is entertaining, enjoyable to read and brilliant.

Only the dooyoo team can award crowns and they are chosen in the following way:

dooyoo check all the nominations
dooyoo check all the suggested reviews that are emailed to us from guides
dooyoo read reviews ourselves
dooyoo then decide which reviews should be crowned. This is the only we can be sure the crowns are awarded objectively.

A definition of concise means something written in as few words as possible. Time and time again I see reviews padded out with how they came to buy it in Tescos with their boyfriend one night. While an introduction is fine, all this padding should not be rewarded. Lisa x

Yeah. If the extra and utterly irrelevant material should bring a review under the specified word limit, then maybe it should be removed?

I think the two phrases "exceptionally well written" and "comprehensive" (both of which appear in the list first) heavily influence the outcome of judging

I would disagree.

I just submit reviews which are personal and a good read.

Dooyoo tend to agree with my decisions.
