| I 'only' got £5 this month. I'm still happy with that as I didn't do that much on the site in December :-p | |

why ? I had above average number of external hits on two of my reviews. I believe, you too had at least one of those (without mentioning any specific reviews, I'm being very careful here!) A few more E's on that and you would have got a diamond, I reckon. I just happened to notice. The PF is not about writing lots of reviews. Just write one which gets lots of hits, and they reward you!

| There does seem to be truth with regards to external viewings. Exceptional ratings I'm not so sure. | |

| Okay so external readings make the diamonds. How does one decide which topic would be of the most interest to the public ? | |

| More than half seem to be about some kind of technology (computer parts, games, cameras etc) which, if this theory has any truth, I would have expected - those are the kind of thing I'd do research into before buying, so they're going to get more external hits | |

| Well external readings DON'T make the diamonds, but I feel they do have a say. It's all part of the BIG equation, algorithm whatever. Also, new products tend to pick up diamonds. Unfortunately I review old games. | |

| Interestingly, one of my toy reviews got 400+ hits, and not because people were searching for that particular toy, but because they were searching for the real thing! So in that sense, the system is flawed. I fear they might not have found my review of the toy version that useful after all. Still, it has brought many visitors to Ciao - and maybe some of them managed to find the info they were looking for in other categories on the site. I can only hope. | |

| The system is not so flawed as people searching for any product is sure to hit and miss these sites.
I guess I state the obvious with that, but it's just a theory.

Dont write reviews on Mars Bars..! It has to be products which are more significant purchases, that people research carefully before buying..(in the main) a couple of products that spring to mind seem to attract lots of diamonds, which would not fall into that criteria however.

I dont know, on my own behaviour I would doubt this...I would click, realise it wasnt what I wanted, then page back to my google search, and click next site...I wouldnt spend time on Ciao, I really dont think..(not if I had never seen nor heard of it before)

Unfortunately I review old games. Well that part does make sense, after all what is the point giving a diamond to an old product...more hits are going to be prevalent when the product is newest..

a couple of products that spring to mind seem to attract lots of diamonds, which would not fall into that criteria however. That's true. Food reviews will never make it. You wouldn't search the internet to find out about a certain cracker - you just buy it to try it. There will always be a couple of electronics and games amongst the diamonds, that's almost guaranteed. Books, dvds, cds, cosmetics: unlikely candidates but still possible. I know of someone who wrote about a cd titled Naked by a well-known popstar and she got a lot of hits - for all the wrong reasons! I noticed travel and airline reviews tend to do well - maybe because they are of global relevance? I wrote two reviews on baby products specifically because I remembered being frustrated about the lack of information online when I needed it - both have attracted above average hits. For those products, there's no competition on Google, as there are few other sources of information available. I suspect some of the topics are accidental - the reviews might contain a phrase or a combination of words that people are putting into the search engines, with no relevance to the product at all.

| It's not that, there are certain categories which are surely not considered for diamonds and have nothing to do with an algorithm, that is for sure.
Remember, what you have down relates to your Theory!

| By the same token, it used to be that some categories were focussed upon for diamonds/PF each month, but Ciao never released those categories to the public. | |

I remember that, I deliberately picked a category that had £££ and very few reviews one month of a printer I had. I made sure I wrote it near the beginning of the month and then read around like mad to get my reads up. It worked a charm. It also worked a second time. Though never again.
