Lack of motivation. Empty
PostSubject: Lack of motivation.   Lack of motivation. EmptyMon 24 Apr 2006, 18:45

I wrote to ciao today about the lack of motivation expressed here about ciao at the moment and asked them if there was anything that they could do to improve the motivation, either by introducing a competition, or something that recognised people's efforts on the site. Bearing in mind the people that have written great reviews and received nothing in the premium fund, the message I seem to be getting from members, and what I feel myself, is that the site doesn't give me much incentive at the moment and am waiting to see what they say.

I would not be checking your inbox too frequently chances are you will be ignored as they are not noted for their communications with members.

Unfortunately, they do communicate with me. Not sure why, but I usually get a pretty speedy reply. Just think they should be making more effort to please existing members instead of alienating us.

Definately agree, the only way I would be more active on the site is if the reward per read was increased otherwise I will continue to read and rate on Dooyoo and just post my reviews on Ciao with very limited reading and rating activity.

PostSubject: Re: Lack of motivation.   Lack of motivation. EmptyMon 24 Apr 2006, 21:42

I worked hard to attain what ciao consider an exceptional review. When I did achieve it, I got nothing for it, and it made me think how stupid the rating system is. I shall be there for new members cos its who I am, but I don't believe the reward to be good or worthwhile at all lately.

email from ciao.

Hello Rachel,

Thank you for your e-mail and your suggestions. There will be some changes
introduced on the website soon.

At the moment I cannot divulge what these changes are but rest assured the
Ciao Team are working towards a new future for the website.

Kind regards,

Jess

Think they may get rid of dots, pay more, get rid of private guestbooks and community points and give us all a bonus for every exceptional review we write, plus have a nominate button where people can see it.

and diamond reviews get a real diamond however the criteria is to remain a mystery, you can't expect everything to change.

No real diamonds are no good. Hypothetical ones are much more fun, but it would be nice to see a little logic about how it works, or even give them on a weekly basis like crowns.

Will be interesting to see what changes they make.

I would like to see more payments for reviews, not just because I want to make some money but most of us work pretty hard on our reviews and it would be nice to get something back. I bet Ciao make a packet out of us.

Unfortunately, effort doesn't necessarily equal worth or value.

As a business, Ciao determine how much value is added by the contribution of its members - if it is decided that paying members per read is too expensive, it may go down a PF only route, or an arcane 'income share' route like Epinions did.

Also, as discussed before, just because someone put 'hard work' into a review, it doesn't necessarily mean it is a good review (though it would be very unlikely that a good review didn't have a fair amount of work put into it, it is entirely possible that a poor review did have a lot of work put into it).

When I joined Ciao it was a really busy site and people kept saying how quiet Dooyoo was. Things seem to be turning around a bit, so hopefully Ciao will sort something out and raise the standards.
I don't have as much time now, but always used to enjoy reading newbies reviews, but often they now churn out several at a time, each a few lines and not helpful that I feel it's a waste and only read my COT. I know there are other great writers but think Ciao needs to prevent all these few liners, who even have the cheek to leave a message asking you to read their next few lines! I enjoy reading good reviews, we need more!
Must be the old age grumps I'm suffering today! confused pale

I have no motivation whatsoever to write for ciao now, I have lost every bit of interest - although I do read very occasionally...
