I am new to this forum, but have been around for a while on Epinions- I'm just wondering if y'all (how's that for Yankee talk) have other accounts with other Opinion site (dooyoo, ciao...) and if you post the same review in both places??

I do, and I've never had any problems - but I was on eps first - other folks who have started on Ciao and Dooyoo and then started cross posting onto Ciao have sometimes had problems with the Epinions 'elite'.

Your call, really!

I found Ciao first then migrated to Dooyoo and finally Eps. I find some of the Eps deities a bit hard to please but can't say i've ever had any problems. Theres even Shvroong where some of my book reviews end up but they seem even less rewarding than Ciao, in terms of payment. The way i see it once the review is written make the buggers work and post them all over the place. An yes I am a mercenary bastard.

Do members of Ciao have a problem with reviews first posted on Epinions and then posted on Ciao? Or Dooyoo, for that matter!? I like the Ciao set up, I wish Epinions was a little more that way, but I'm already so in the thick of it over there, I don't want to alienate myself either place!!!

there arnt that many people who post on Eps and the european sites (ciao and dooyoo) so i doubt many people notice in that instance. Cross posting between dooyoo and ciao is common place and totally accepted. Thats what i feel any way...anyone else think differently?

Ciao are fine about it - though it's usually wise to mention it, especially at first (if you look at my early reviews, you'll see that I usually put a disclaimer along the lines of "this has been previously posted under the same name for an American audience").

Also, if you are cross posting, it's generally wise not to post more than one or two a day (one's better) - and don't forget to take any HTML code out!

Actually using the same user name helps as well if you have not already registered.

I copied this from the Epiniosn t&c section of the member center... I'm not exactly sure how to interpret this... but as an Advisor in Eps I don't want to jeopordize that position, however some of the other sites look fun! Any thoughts??

16. Can I post my reviews to other web sites?
As stated in the Epinions.com User Agreement, you are free to publish your content wherever you choose. However, we ask that you refer or provide links to Epinions if you choose to republish your Content elsewhere and that you do not publish the same items of Content on both Epinions and other product or price comparison sites

Thanks!

I think the operative word there is ask. They'd like you not to cross post to similar sites, but they realise they do not and cannot own the copyright, so cannot actually stop you.

Some members, if they are feeling in a bad mood, may have issues, but particularly if you were at Eps first should be ok.

When I first started cross posting to Ciao, I credit Eps, then I became vaguer and said 'an American site'. Now I cross post from Dooyoo and Ciao to eps. Seems to work!

One thing to be ever aware of though is changing the currency. I use an online currency converter.

I agree- I think they don't have a right, but who knows if other members will get persnickity about it. Perhaps updating some of my older reviews and posting elsewhere would be a better idea. Thanks for all the help, I look forward to more discussions on this site!!

It is almost like you have to ask permission to write

You are very welcome indeed. Try out the other sites as an experiment and let us know how we treat you from a newcomers point of view. It may make interesting reading, as compared to how our reviews are accepted at Epinions. That wasn't a suggestion to tell us about specific reviews, as advertising specific ones is against the site rules, but just as a viewpoint of how you find your reception and what things would help you would be interesting.

It used to be official policy that, by posting a review on Epinions, that you granted them exclusive online rights except for a personal web site. (Some old-timers may not be aware of the change, or may not care.)

It still is official policy that copyright violators are to be persecuted (ummm, prosecuted) to the full extent available. A reference to Epinions in other online postings may help the google phrase police determine who had rights to post the material, although whether the Epinions review quoted other online material or whether that online material quoted the review is difficult to determine, at best.

I no longer check, myself, but if I see in the notes (copied from http://www.original-site.example.com.invalid), I'll usually investigate.
