If a person posting something specifically (pacifically for anyone from Ciao) wants the thread to have on topic posts only, could they post the letters OTO ij the subject header so that people like myslef will know that they do not want to read terrible jokes from people like keptinanatticcisuk or Queerpike?

just an idea to limit OT posts.

I think that the review site areas should all be free of off topic postings as much as possible until conversations have run dry.

Different site draw different people, or the same people for different reasons. FOIB has always had a reputation for being gentler and less in your face than opters which is quite political, brash and serious at times. I think the two sites to a large degree site either side of the Dooyoo/Ciao demarkation and to a degree reflect the site attitudes. Start scaling down the fun element an you wll just become a shadow of the darkside and maybe lose what many people come here for. Any thoughts please...(remember to keep them OTO)

P.S. Banana Hammock...oh bugger.

'I am your father' what idiots done that? It does amaze me how off topic we (including me obviously) go off topic in the review site categories and not banter and fun. Was the 'darkside' in relation to i am your father'.

Then surely an idea similar to mine woudl be of use?

See, if I post something, I do not want it to stay on topic, I like it to branch out into a conversation, much like the pub-chat scenario.

If it becomes anal, I get bored.

It is your site and it is down to you, but check how many threads have two or three replies and aks why?

And if you want me to be you father as well, it is not a problem but I am not paying pocket money!

No..in my world ciao/FOIB = the fluffy side and Dooyoo/opters = the darkside, but only used to refer to the site you are not on at the time.

I know its OT but Margarine did ask...

Take the word "I" and ask yourself if that has any significance. Okay things do stray, but if members respected that other members might seek information in those areas of the site, then perhaps it may help everyone.

whilst I appreciate what you and Debs are trying to do, I just get the feeling that if you ban the humour and silly's from the serious thread then you will just be left with humourless arguments which will make the place seem even less friendly. I hope you prove me wrong...

is that a greek dip?

I once went to a seminar and the speakers was Alan hansen and chris Bonnington.

Their speeches were litered with off topic stories and jokes and they were both fantastic at getting their points across, brillaint.

BECAUSE THEY WENT OFF TOPIC AND THEN CAME BACK ON TOPIC.

See, it is just like real life.

No thats Prince Philip you are thinking of.

Back OT..(just to keep Rach off my case)..Totally agree watch people like Billy Connolly and Ross Noble do their thing and you will see that going off subject causes a big impact when you actual hit back home. In music its called dynamics.

Yeh ok, spontaneous conversation, I accept. Imagine the case scenario. People are talking about a repair to the car and then someone comes in and butts into the conversation by saying "I started my period today". There is off topic and off topic. Clearly my example would be a little more than off topic, but postings are a bit like that too. If the conversation flows, so be it and then perhaps those who want spontaneous conversation can go back on topic again as quickly as they shot off it.

Only a suggestion.

"Hi john, changed the oil filter yesterday."

"Yeah Dave, added some fog lights to my bumper as well."

"Oh Hi dave and John, I had my period today!"

Sorry rach, but that does not cut it for me.

I think you are clutching at tampons myself.
