| Has to be book first - I may be wrong but i don't remember any films being made into books, it`s all the other way.
Without the books half the films would not exist.

| I prefer the book over the movie myself.... Saying that, I thought LOTR was just too good !! The book has the power to let your imagination run riot, but the movie was very well done, sticking mainly to the book.
I don't think Peter Jackson could have done any other. Same as King Kong. I'm glad he stuck to it being based in the 30's.....

'2001; A space odyssey' was actually a film before a book, believe it or not! Stanley Kubrick approached Arthur C Clarke, told him what he wanted, and Clarke wrote the script. It wasn't until later that he turned it into a book. Weird, eh?

| In most cases books turned into movies suck big time which necessarily results from time limitations, script re-writes and all kinds of liberties taken with the source material. There are a few exceptions where a movie is at least as good as the book if not better, but those are too far between to make much of a difference in the overall per centeage --- so books thank you very much. | |

| I actually prefer the movie, for the visual aspect. Books I know can be very vivid, but a movie just makes it that more real. Lisa x | |

| A lot of times I have read the book first but on the occasions I have seen the film first I do prefer that as in my mind the book then needs to live up to the film and vuice versa really. Confused?? | |

| I always go for the book. The only film that has come close to matching the book is The Godfather. | |

| I much prefer the book myself, but I have to say, when you have read the book and then see the movie, you know the plot, you know whats going to happen, and it kinda spoils it for me when know whats going to happen in a movie.
Saying that, I like to know if it is going to be scary, and I like to see if the movie is going to live up to the expectations I have from reading the book. So I guess its a no-win situation for me.... I still prefer the book though, when all is said and done.

| I prefer the book although there is one instance where the film helped me read the book and that was War and Peace. Without the film, I doubt that I would have lasted the book, because the film made the characters come alive better for me because it's quite a deep and long book with a lot of characters and scenarios and perhaps I would have lost the will to read on without the film. | |
