| What do members think of the situation here of a convicted murderer able to get his hands on drugs in a bid to commit suicide ? | |

| I think it has had too much air time already.
No he probably should not have got them, but prisoners will always find a way won't they?

| I was under the impression that he'd hoarded his own medication (anti-depressants) and then overdosed on the stash he'd built up - he didn't get them from anywhere dodgy.
Far as I'm concerned he shouldn't be given anti-depressants anyway - bastard ought to feel depressed after what he did.

| he wants to commit suicide and the rest of the country don't want him around and tax payers resent providing his upkeep which we will have to do for the rest of his life, even if he comes out it will be free housing and living allowance for the rest of his life. I say a whip round to get more pills for him would be the way to go. | |

| I agree fully with the above; although keeping him alive would provide me with the satisfaction that he will have to suffer every single day for what he did, the amound of our tax's that is poured into his, and other murdering scumbags upkeep is digusting. Kill the bastard and get it other with. | |

| But:
Prisoners are entitled to medicine just like anyone else, it isn't up to anyone else to decide that.
And even though he wants to commit suicide, it isn't the prison service's job or anyone else's to aide that. We don't have the death penalty in this country.
Not that I have any sympathy AT ALL for the man, which is why I am annoyed about hearing it on the news, people like him probably like publicity.

Shame he did not die but it is not our call.

| Yes, shame he didn't die but i'd prefer the government to kill him (lethal injection or worse) than for him to die of his own free will. Scumm like him doesn't deserve it-or medication unless he is really ill. | |

| Ach, this arguemnt again.....
Well, for me, the death penalty has no place in what we deem a civilised society. The point of the penal system is meant to be re-habilitation. An eye for an eye is barbaric.
And anyway, we DO have the death penalty. Though only for high treason.

| Lol... three guesses what it was folks...
No, I don't think that Huntley should have the option of killing himself to get out of his sentence. Helen summed it up above really - no death penalty, so no legal murders.
