| get hold of The Iron Dragons Daughter by Michael Swanwick. I used to read a lot of fantasy novels and then got out of the habit for many years and recently read this and found it to be awesome. Sort of Mervyn Peake meets Michael Moorcock meets Anne MacCaffery..and more. Highly recommended. | |

| Try Clive Barker's stuff e.g. "The Damnation Game" or "Weaveworld" or even "The Thief of Always". It's dark but brilliant. | |

| Ursula Le Guin's The Earthsea Saga. The later entries in the series (namely the fourth and fifth books) have received a bit more critical lambasting, but personally I have enjoyed the whole series immensely. The second book is a particular favourite. | |

| One of the best I read a few years ago was the series 'The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant' by Stephen Donaldson. Great fantasy, different from many of the others and quite adult in the content. And I'd also second the recommendation for the 'Ice and Fire' series. | |
