FORUM RULES. THE LONG EDITION. Empty
PostSubject: FORUM RULES. THE LONG EDITION.   FORUM RULES. THE LONG EDITION. EmptyFri 30 Jun 2006, 22:10

When I created this forum, I did so wanting to provide people with a site that was fun and challenging, that offered members a bit more than just chatting, a place where members did not feel like they were taking part in a huge “Let's talk about so and so” den of iniquity where people feel unwelcome. Forums are very difficult to police (don't even like the word), and the idea of the forum was to be a place where people from all walks of life, all review sites, could discuss subjects that interested them in a pleasant atmosphere.

With people that have strong opinions, it is not always easy to balance what is right and what is wrong. For the first six months of the old forum, we never had to look at posts. Like minded people talked about things that they were interested in, in a pleasant manner, but what was missing was people that perhaps do not have like minds, and that want to tell the way that they see things as well, and by making the forum open to all, we tried to create somewhere that gave views from all sides.

The rules are simple ones and are these. I didn't want to spell out exact rules as talking together on a website should be fairly easy for people, and we are mostly adults that realise what is offensive and what is not. When you join this forum, you tick a box to say that you adhere to certain things:

Quote :
“While the administrators and moderators of this forum will attempt to remove or edit any generally objectionable material as quickly as possible, it is impossible to review every message. Therefore you acknowledge that all posts made to these forums express the views and opinions of the author and not the administrators, moderators or webmaster (except for posts by these people) and hence will not be held liable."

Okay, I made mistakes here as well and posted things that were pointing to reviews, albeit accidentally. In future, if you see a posting that you believe points to a review or a member of ciao or dooyoo, press the report button, so that it can be dealt with.

You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned (and your service provider being informed). The IP address of all posts is recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions. You agree that the webmaster, administrator and moderators of this forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should they see fit. As a user you agree to any information you have entered above being stored in a database. While this information will not be disclosed to any third party without your consent the webmaster, administrator and moderators cannot be held responsible for any hacking attempt that may lead to the data being compromised.

Okay is that clear enough ? Abusive could be questioned by some, just as it is on ciao or dooyoo but basically it means being decent human beings and not naming people in a context which could be construed by ANY person reading the site as abusive, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually orientated (and here please use common sense). Of course we discuss things of a sexual nature sometimes, but you are mostly adults and most do realise where to draw the line. We have to abide by the law here as well and any racist postings should be brought to our attention because we can actually be reported and fined for it.

Here, we have no access to your private information.

By clicking Register below you agree to be bound by these conditions.

1.Swearing and offensive language. Yes, we all let of steam sometimes, we are all human beings but I believe that really bad swearing should be edited out, not really out of rules but our of decency towards other members.

2.Off topic. The trouble is that although its ok to go off topic and I am as guilty as everyone else, we do have to work extra hard to remove the postings later because otherwise when new members go to read threads, they don't make a lot of sense. Not a hard and fast rule here but we would ask members to try, and also to understand that if their postings are removed then it is simply to put subjects back on topic again. Please try and help us by keeping on topic, and if you notice a thread going badly off topic, which annoys you, please let us know.

3.Any advertising of your reviews or anyone elses reviews is a no go. The reason for this is that it almost begs for reads, and also can cause unpleasantness between members, for example if you draw members attention to what you think is a revenge rating for example. People look. People join in the argument, and that is not the purpose of the forum, and goes against everything we stand for. Same if you see a dire review on a site, rate it and move on. It is not up for discussion here.

4.Direct insult aimed at any person is also a no go. This will be removed. By all means discuss issues, though not individuals.

5.Naming is a no go, and here we will moderate. (this includes hinting or pointing to other sites that could confirm the identity of another party).

Now this really is easy for everyone to understand. NAMES OF MEMBERS in a context which could be interpreted by ANY member as talking about (rather than to) a member is not permitted and will be edited.

6.Using your ciao/dooyoo name is an accepted practice on this site

These make pretty clear reading, and on top of these, the forum is a no naming forum, and members that make perpetual mention of other members will be warned and then excluded from the forum.

Let's be pleasant and make the forum experience enjoyable for all, and please keep personal digs at one another off the board, because they will be removed. If people cannot sort out their own disputes between themselves in an adult manner, that is their choice, but not on the forum, as it makes the experience extremely unpleasant for other members.

Thankyou.
