Yeah, so you've been a member for 3 days? If you have read 63 other reviews and been read 165 times then your ratio is not going to attract people to read your reviews. There is an expectation that your two figures should be closer than that. Also if you post too often people get bored and only read your most recent. Lots of people gave advice already - read more, learn from what you read and put more effort into fewer reviews.

I think you and I should go into business! As what? As negative PR people. We could be hired by Milton Keynes to knock Bedford and Northampton. Nobody would pay us to knock Luton though - everyone knows it's *Bad Word* already.

Personally when I see a member name I do not recognise as being one who rates my reviews I always check their stats. If they tend to get more rates than they give out I tend not to read their stuff as in my opinion they are not contributing to the site. If I notice they no longer rate my work I will probably stop reading their reviews unless the topic really interests me. It is a very personal view and there are quite a few members on the site who do very little rating and are happy with getting about 20 reads a review as they write pretty much every day and rely on the same people blindly rating everything on the new review list. If however you are active and visible on the site rating fairly and leaving suitable comments you will see your rates per review climb to the 40 to 60 mark if you publish every couple of days and this is probably far more likely to lead to a long stay on the site as it will not become stale. It is really up to the individual to decide how they want to make use of the site in my opinion.

i assume that isnt on Dooyoo then cos that must mean you've only benn a member 3 1/2 days A low reading fingure means that people will not read your reviews as they are unlikely to get a read back. In my own opinion your reading figure should be at least 50% higher than the figure for how many times you've been read.

That is always a good start but if you dont actually go out and read other peoples reviews you will find that you will never build up a big number of readers. As was said below your comment a lot of people, me included, will check peoples read/rate figures before reading someone and if they are not reading significantly more than they are being read then they are not contributing to the site and its not worth the effort. The only way to get 40-50 reads for every review is to do this.

| Stephanie.
Also it's a good idea to pace yourself - I know it's tempting if you get a load of requests approved and you've got the review ready to go, you want to dump and run. But don't. If you post 5 reviews on one day, I doubt you get significantly more reads than posting just the one.
And if you can make it one really good one - that's been properly spell checked and has something really important to say - then let it sit there a while and draw the reads.
It's not a competition to write as much as you can.
And thanks for the reads yesterday - I appreciate them BUT why not be selfish? you would probably get more benefit from reading one review by six different members rather than 6 reviews by one member.
Good luck | |

| What K and atticus say pretty much mirrors my own thoughts.
Firstly, I am wary of people that make bold statements such as "if you read (rate) me, I will read (rate) you back" because they rarely do. In fact one such member has nearly twice as many reads as they've given out and they post work practically every day. Oh, and they don't return rates if you rate them lower than they like...
It's an element of etiquette on Dooyoo that you give back to the site. While it's impossible that every single member can give out rates more than they've been rated, it's not impossible that active and busy members can do so.
Unlike Helium, quantity is not required. In general, you'd do better posting three high quality reviews per week than posting something every single day as you'll end up getting more reads per review plus the chance of extra Crown reward.
As Atticus states above, if you're seen to be taking from the site without giving back, then human nature means you will be avoided and you might not even get the nominations for Crowns. It's rare that a member like that can actually achieve success, but I can think of at least one offhand.

| I do feel kinda hypocritical about that though because 99% of the time I read by topic, not by person (one of Helium's strengths is that articles are anonymous when rating). But I do get annoyed by those that take from the community and don't give back (and contributing articles is not giving back to the community IMHO). | |

| Well for a beginner I'm happy with the way things are going. I've written 5 articles, with mostly good feedback, and I have been rating as much as I've been read, and trying to get a little ahead when I can. I'm not just rating those who have read me either, though I thank them for my support and put them first when I'm getting my rating numbers up. | |

Good luck Yeah i made that mistake yesterday not trying to be in competition- just trying to get my articles around while the ideas are still in my head to do so- or else i will be the eternal procrastinator - Ciao's favourite member wrote:

I always check out the people who rate me- but usually i just check out those that are on my statistics page - I am working on that ad for how long i have been on dooyoo- 9 days now- the 20 a day remark was made 2 days ago(i think) and i was doing 20 a dat, i only took 4 days to start doing it! I am working on balancing out! give me a chance!

| I have to admit I never look at who has read my reviews, and it makes no difference whether they have or not as to whether I read someones. All I go by is their own read statistics, if they have read more than they have been read then I will read their new one. If they havent then the chances are i will not. Good to see that both of you are trying to read more, the best way to do this then is to do the 20 a day read thingy and not post anything yourself for a week or so, see how many reads you'll get for your next one then | |

Whatever takes my fancy out of the new in list (which might be the author or the content)
Plus new authors...but if I see loads in a row from same person I tend not to read them all (unless one happens to be in my cat!)

| I hope you didn't just click. They do have a click counter ! Reading is an important part of review sites, because it means the public get access to what the site considers are the best of the bunch. | |
