| Is anyone else getting fed up with the cafe section of the forum becoming over run with threads dedicated to how great America is and how its justified in bombing the hell out of the Middle East. I know everyone is entitled to their opinion but I for one am spending less and less time there as there are so many threads started mainly by very right wing, republican pro war, "Bush is God" types. Half the threads are, IMHO, totally missinformed tabloid crap and the other half are just comic book knee jerk reactions. If I hear "liberal lemming".."cut and run democrats" ..."no one throws me my guns and tells me to run" or the like one more time I will throw up. The middle east situation is not a Clint Eastwood movie and I just wish the culprits would grow up.
There seems to be a bunch of brainwashed armchair warriors behind these and at least one of them can't even spell "republican"...makes you wonder how they managed to vote.
Just needed to get it off my chest and if i had said anything in public over there, I would have been hounded off the forum. Still maybe thats no bad thing.

| I can't say I move too far from "griping" about the site itself, SP.
I think I've oonly made one ever non-Helium related post.

| I don't think I've been in the cafe part. I tend to stick with the ask other users and the suggestion area. And here. More interested in writing and rating and trying to learn from everyone.
I'm a republican. But I don't like bashing at all. So I highly doubt I'll even check it out.

| Everyone is allowed their personal view on the world but hen its rammed down your throat thread after thread it gets tiresome. I was accused of being a "traitor" because I disagreed with a Nazi style pro Bush rant. Odd thing is being English its difficult for me to be a traitor to the US.
should have missquoted Voltaire at them, "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to be a total arsewipe"
Suffice it to say I don't get involved in any political threads anymore. Its okay to have a point of view as long as it matches a certain groups views, else you are in for a hard ride.

| agreed. I like a good debate too but some of the threads end up being just plain nasty. Yes Rach there are some interesting non-political threads, but I thought that as Helium seems to be the one truely international site it would be a bit more balanced than that. It seems if you don't say apple pie at the end of every sentence you can get some stick.
Maybe I am being harsh, as you said CFM the rest of it is very good, the writers tips is always worth a read, maybe I was hopeing for more from the general mixing of global minds.

| just a thought but now they have started segregating the general section into themes ie pets, religion etc...just add "politics", "global affairs," "conflicts", "red neck facist ranting" and "I watch Fox news and think I know whats going on in the world." | |

Is it meant to be an international site, SP? I was just wondering. A lot of the topics submitted in the main site seem to be very US-centric. I was wondering if Helium was trying to be international or it just was cos all us quaint Europeans had joined up...

| well it is US based, but if you get on the forum there are a lot of us Euro-types as well as a few Aussies, lots of Canadians, some Africans and a smattering of other nationalities. I guess the people that run it will cater for the market they know best, the US but there does seem to be a more global representation than the ones we know better on this site.
I guess the forum may seem dominated by Americans because there is a very vocal presents who really like the sound of their own voice, beleive America is the centre of the Universe and in many cases that the South will rise again. (no, not Portsmouth)

(no, not Portsmouth) As long as it does not forget the international members like epinions seems to do then Helium being a little US centric is fine. Wish I could stop reading bloody homeschooling reviews though

| as an american I can't stand reading the **** on the board lately either for the past couple months. It was hard enough just keeping an abnormal thread going just for the sake of being able to take a break and be ridiculous but even that has lost its spark due to the **** and ******* idiots that have been ruining it for many. Pardon my francais.
It is frustrating to see that objective opinions are ripped apart like poor Pentheus in the Bacchae. Don't want to put forth my opinion there anyway about certain things because the less open minded ******* will not be able to understand it and then they'll get angry...and then there will be name calling...and threats to visit me at home...and leg breaking or kidnapping of my cat.
No one messes with my kitty. No one.
wow. this was supposed to be a short reply. It felt short though. Was it short? Was it?

| lol you quirky writers yous. I put the * in there all by myself so that I wouldn't have to be edited. They aren't bad words, you can insert anything you like...anything. even chocolate if it fits.
Thanks for taking the chest beating worry off my chest Steer, means alot. I bring up Pentheus because I recently wrote my own version of the play and had a reading of it. No, can't translate from ancient greek darnitall but I love the story so did my own interpretation. Ciao, I have asked Barbara for more tools but lordy knows when they'll get to them. Or when we'll get them.
Thingy lol I start laughing anyway when I type thingy as i'm always using that word. umm Do you know how to use a machine gun? and is there a particular need you have for one.... :-}
