LATEST CHALLENGE ON CIAO.

There appears to be a new challenge called "You have been tagged". Has anyone seen it. Not sure I want to be tagged.

No not seen it is it any good?

You are asked to profile a member. Not sure whether giving too much information about someone is a good thing or not, and think ciao guidelines have something about reviews should not be about members. It seems light hearted enough, but not sure about it at all.

I don't think it is a great idea, primarily as it brings out this elitism/cliquey thing on ciao - writing about one member just seems odd to me!

What you should consider when writing a review

Write your review as a decision aid for others
Describe your OWN experience
Tell readers both what you like and what you dislike about the product
Write in a factual, clear and well-structured way
Use accurate grammar, spelling, capitalization and punctuation
Post your review in the right place

What you must avoid when writing a review

Do not plagiarise any part of your review
Do not post content that violates our site rules
Do not use your review to advertise your own or third party services
Do not use your review to discuss other reviews or members
Do not publish the same review more than once


It says don't use your review to discuss other members...but this is more of a case on product reviews I believe. I don't agree with the new challenge though. It sucks of power craving.

Yeah I hate that cause it will be all the 'popular' members getting reviews about them in a 'lets kiss their ass and be part of the croud' style thing. Like being back in the playground again.

Rach...I've just seen a comment from you saying "I wonder who I shall tag"...this implies that you want to be part of the game.

You might have changed your mind since writing the comment though, so I could just be way of course.

As for the tagging idea, I refuse to rate anyones review. The idea - although nice in its simplicity and innocence - is merely a way of bringing certain members into the public eye, who then will have all their reviews rated as part of a clicking cartel. Call me cynical, call me whatever you like, I don't care, but at the end of the day this is touting for friends, albeit in an almost naive way.

No worries...I assumed it was something a simple as you changing your mind...your female, therefore entitled to change your mind at least 6 times before forming an opinion.

Well, I'm not quite sure in what way it is either cliquey OR "Power-craving" as also suggested ~ I didn't particularly want to be "tagged" as you are put on the spot, and must put another person on the spot as well.

And, UNLIKE the "Ciao Awards" reviews, each person can only be "tagged" once and that is it ~ so it doesn't degenerate into a "let's all esteem XXX!" type clicking cartel where the same people are named time after time after time.

As categories such as "On The Couch with a Ciao Member" and "My Circle of Trust" still exist in the cafe, it appears to me that it is a restriction on the whole about being nice rather than nasty and not filling paying reviews with information irrelevant to the "prospective buyer" surely.

I even think it is possibly much less "exclusive" now, as the challenge has changed somewhat since it began, with the original idea being you esteem one person who esteems another who then esteems another ~ I am not very good at exclusivity (if that is a word?) [~ have to ask the grammar police?] ~ but the current version indicates tagging three persons who tag three more who tag three more etcetera

AND there are quite a few relatively unknown members being drawn in as well rather than just the "Usual Suspects" who have been around now forever.

so will you be picking three now?

I have been giving it thought but still not sure about it. May pick three lesser known members that merit recognition. Can't say for sure as I don't do a lot of challenges these days.
