Agh!

I wrote a DVD review on the Jacket and was told by Hogsflesh (the new movie guide) before I had posted it that if it had no extras as ours was a rented version I should put it in the DVd category and say there are no extras. This I did.

Now Plipplip (the other new movie guide) has rated it SU as he says it should be in the VHS category!

What are we supposed to do??? It's so frustrating.

I left a comment on plipplops last review to explain so hope he reads it and amends his rating.

I also think it should be in the VHS section, but at the end of the day, it is your choice.

I look at it as if I wanted to buy a DVD, I would want to know if the extras are any good otherwise I would just hire the movie (Like you did) or buy an ex-rental copy.

The thing to remember with DVDs are that collectors love extras where as movie watchers love the movie, so posting it in VHS would be the right thign to do for any DVD rental without extras.

This is only my opinion though and I would probably have rated either SU or U at best, depending on how good the moive review as and what mood I was in.

ok - well i did suggest the vhs category as this is what I initially thought too, and maybe I will have it moved after plipplop comes back to me.

Whats realy annoying isd that two guides, both doing the movie category, have given me comflicting information, resulting in a lot of faffing around and a low rate.

I can see why you are anoyed and agree, if they had consulted it may have never happened, but they are both new to the role and will make mistakes so we have to accept that.

What I do like though, taking the positive out of this, is that two different guides do have different opinions and that will help a lot.

Not much consulation for you reference the rates, but remember, they still get you 3p whatever they are and it is not a major thing as much as lists etc on Ciao. If it was a crownworthy review, I would delete it, post it in VHS and let the guides remove the DVD one for you.

Thanks Debs. It will make a difference. I have been telling a member to put theirs in VHS for months and they won't and were rated by guides as VH, which sends out inconsistent messages. Won't go back on old rates and change em, not worth the hassle, but I shall work on the premise that reviews that do not have DVD extras in em should be moved.

agreed on everyhting said and i did suggest the vhs categopry which has been added this morning.

i only posted it in vhs as hogsflesh wrote a whole review about "how to write a good movie review" and this particular instance of rental dvd's was in there as putting them under dvd section.

anyway, plipplop has come back to me and he will talk to hogsflesh to become a united front on what should be where and hopefully he will move and rerate for me.

just wanted to say both guides apologised for all the confusion which i thought was really nice and they will have it moved for me.

i jumped on my high horse a bit quick, forgetting they are new and it's been sorted now hopefully.

Good I hope so. I saw their ratings on another member for a rental and they had rated VH and questioned it, knowing the ruling was not to do that. Glad you sorted it all out.

Because I concentrate of the film in my reviews and don't normally bother with the extras I always post to the VHS section after learning the hard way. Mind you ruling on this has always been a bit inconsistant. I got SU'ed by the guide at the time but found that they were VU'ing other reviews that had no mention of extras in the DVD category. I guess its the age old "its not what you know its who you know".

It doesn't bother me either way wendy really. If you've mentioned it then the rest of your reviw is good-its still very useful to me (i rated it VU still). However, i'm not a guuide and they have different opinions so as long as if you change it plipplop marks it VU, i dont see the prooblem. I know you were friendly about it because ive read the comments

butters, can you take note please. FILM only must be put in the VHS part and DVD with information on extras in the DVD department. Its important because they are about to change the VHS department to the film department. I rated Wendy's review VH because it is going to move, and the guide is moving it. Any review in the wrong slot needs moving and needs downrating til its moved.

I thought that Sebastian had cleared that up for the guides at least. If a review is posted in the DVD section it MUST contain something relating to the DVD package, bonuses, extras, menu features etc. or else however brilliant and useful the film review is it should be rated SU.

If the review is film only then it should be posted in the VHS section.

There was discretion used to rate a review of a film on DVD which included few or no extras. I don't think it's enough to say "the version I watched (rented) had no extras" if you watched a rented version than I think you should post in the VHS section, since the site is primarily talking about advice on product purchase then a dvd review should be reviewing what is commonly available in the shops, if a DVD in any form has no extra features then fair enough.

Yes Mauri, but Phil/Gary/C(S)erberus did not agree with Dooyoo so decided he could post them wherever he wanted to.

If Dooyoo or the guides do not inform people this is so then it will never happen.

It was suitably ambigious to cause ructions. If u rent a DVD you put it in the dvd slot--with or without extras,as long as you make that point. Not all versions of DVD`s are the rental ones.

To be fair, it was always my interpretation that it was about buying a product, not renting it. If you rented a DVD and as you say it was only the rental copy, it should be film only as that is unlikely to be the copy you buy in the shop, and not particularly useful to the consumer?

I very rarely rent movies, but I do have an extensive collection on VHS that I am upgrading slowly to DVD, so to me the extras are very important in a review

If a DVD has no extras it goes to the lower end of my upgrade list as I can't be faffed to pay out for what I already have - I enjoy extras such as out-takes, interviews, behind the scenes etc, but if all a DVD has is a trsailer it's not going make me want to upgrade

Unless of course it is a film I haven't got and I really want to see after reading a review, but even then I'd probably in most cases hang about for a special version to come out

You are just too ignorant to listen when told a hundred times not to post DVD reviews without extras.
